Day 1
Hasimara → Phuentsholing → Thimphu
170–175 km · 5–6 hours
Arrive at Hasimara. Meet your driver and travel to Jaigaon, where our team member and your guide receive you, and walk across into Phuentsholing through the Pedestrian Terminal. Permit formalities at the Immigration & Permit Office. The road to Thimphu winds along the Toorsa river through Gedu, Chukha and Chuzom, where the Thimphu and Paro rivers meet. A short stop at the Eight Dharma Kaya Stupas at Gedu.

Day 2
Thimphu sightseeing → Paro
55 km · 1.5 hours
Buddha Dordenma, the great seated Buddha overlooking the valley. National Memorial Chorten, busy with prayer from early morning. The Takin Preserve, home of Bhutan's national animal. Simply Bhutan and the Handicraft Bazaar. In the afternoon, drive to Paro via Chuzom for Rinpung Dzong and the Nya Meh Zam cantilever bridge beside it.

Day 3
Taktsang — Tiger's Nest
Full day · 5–6 hour hike
Early breakfast, then the drive to the base point. Taktsang sits on a cliff at about 3,120 metres. The climb can be walked, or ridden by horse as far as the cafeteria. In the afternoon, the Ta Dzong National Museum if there is energy for it — or a hot stone bath at a Paro farmhouse, which is the traditional cure for hiking legs.

Day 4
Paro → Phuentsholing → Hasimara
297 km · 7–8 hours
After breakfast, the drive back via Chuzom, Chukha and Gedu, with lunch on the way at Wangkha or Jaigaon. Exit formalities at the Pedestrian Terminal, then on to Hasimara.

Being honest about this one: Four days is tight. The Tiger's Nest hike and the drive back to the border fall close together, and there is little spare time if the permit queue runs long.
